Arts Awake: Loob at labas Archi exhibits on nationwide tour

IN CELEBRATION of the 2018 National Arts Month, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts thru the National Committee on Architecture and the Allied Arts in cooperation with ArkiCamp Heritage FilAsia, Inc. spearheaded the Loob at Labas: Talakayan at Pagpaparangya 2018.

Loob at Labas is a traveling exhibition supplemented with lectures and workshops which were held in key cities across the country for February and March.

Four component exhibits featuring projects of the NCAAA and participating design-related organizations were launched together with selected publications on Philippine architecture and talks on trends and challenges in the present Philippine architecture setting.

Exhibits

Luntiang Pook is an exhibit on the landscape design initiative of the Philippine Association of Landscape Architect's (Pala). The project provides opportunities of interaction between landscape architects and Filipino communities, and gives the latter new and innovative ideas in developing small scale and functional landscape designs that benefit grassroots population.

While Luntiang Pook works with open spaces, Philippine Institute of Interior Designers' (PIID) “Habang May Retaso, May Trabaho” exhibit deals with crafting functional pieces from "retaso" or scrap materials sourced from fabric/textile and wood. Habang May Retaso aims to provide the audience with skills and knowledge that will open economic opportunities through creating and selling retaso upcycled products.

Council of Interior Design Educators' (CIDE)’s Laman + Loob exhibit is a capacity building project which involves teaching how waste materials may be upcycled into home decors and accessories as well as teaching techniques for good housekeeping to residents at the grassroots level (especially in relocation sites).

Finally, NCCA’s very own winners of the Haligi ng Dangal, an annual award conferred upon completed/executed works in Architecture and its Allied Professions, with a special citation for Heritage structures and sites, was exhibited in all sites.
