Decisiveness

“Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision! For the day of the Lord is near in the valley of decision.” (Joel 3:14, NKJV)

LIKE it or loathe it, everyone must engage in a decision-making process be it simple or complex. Everyone must make a choice. One may be the highest ranking official of the land or ordinary citizens regardless of gender and age, but he/she must make decisions and be decisive.

Decisiveness is the ability to decide. It is a virtue characterized by wisdom, discernment and firmness. From the soundness, accuracy and strength of a decision, a person can act with precision. With clarity, costly mistakes will be avoided resulting to productivity and profitability for everyone.

Decisiveness means being tenacious yet showing no sign of stubbornness nor arrogance. It is the ability to make choices with speed and clarity. Moreover, a decisive person is also willing to take responsibility of the results and consequences of his decisions. In any situation, the ability to decide is crucial because too many lives are connected to us and whether we like it or not, they will also be affected. So, with clear decisions, there will be actions and corresponding results. Being decisive is the most logical and reasonable way to take on any problem before it grows worse and remain unresolved.

Most of the time, it is thought that maintaining status quo is easier and safer. But to not decide leads people to the whims of others and have to rely on others’ decision-making process. These types of people lose their chance of being empowered and receiving self-worth. They live in assumptions that others will make better decisions for them. They miss new and higher paths of success and discoveries for failing to act. It also results to procrastination and wasting precious time to influence others as well. Without decision, progress won’t be expected.

Therefore, to be decisive, let us first trust in the Lord with all our heart. We should always never lean on our own understanding but in all things and at all times, acknowledge Him who is the source of all truth, perfection, wisdom and counsel. This is because the Almighty God’s ways are higher than our ways and His thoughts are higher than ours. We are assured that He will direct all our ways as we learn to yield to His will.

Second, let us surround ourselves with honorable people filled with wisdom. We will always be protected in the multitude of counsel leading towards an accurate decision for a successful action.

With an accurate and righteous decision made, we move out of the valley of decision towards a higher plane- up to the mountain where the presence of the Almighty God is present, bringing extraordinary provision, protection, progress, promotion and fulfilled promises.
