Ease of access for PWDs and elderly

BAGUIO City Vice Mayor Edison Bilog has filed a proposal and was approved on first reading during the City Council’s regular session last Monday allocating the amount of P2 million or so much thereof for the construction and installation of an elevator within City Hall for the benefit and use of persons with disabilities (PWDs), elderly and pregnant women, among others, while transacting with the different offices at City Hall.

The said proposed measure stated that while ramps have already been installed near the City Hall One Stop Shop, PWDs and the elderly have expressed their difficulty when using such because of its length and elevation.

In 2003, the City Council approved Ordinance No. 17 “Appropriating the amount of P44,720,000 from the unappropriated surplus of the general fund to cover expenses for the priority projects of the City of Baguio” wherein an amount of P1,700,000 was then allocated for the construction of an elevator within City Hall but unfortunately, the construction of said elevator did not push thru.

City Environment and Parks Management Office (Cepmo) head Cordelia Lacsamana has assured the council that the carnival at the Burnham Park children’s playground has ceased operation and were given until the end of the month to dismantle their rides.

Lacsamana was invited to appear last Monday to explain the reports received by the council that the said carnival continue to operate despite the fact that their contract has already expired last June 5, 2018 and its request for extension was already disapproved by the legislative body.

Lastly, my heartfelt salutation to the newly elected barangay officials of (AZCKO) Abanao, Zandueta, Chugum, Kayang, Otek especially to their Punong Barangay Jeff Cheng and to our colleague in the field of journalism Zaldy Comanda. Thanks for the invitation during your thanksgiving and victory party yesterday.

May you continue to serve your constituents with the same perseverance and dedication as what you have exhibited even prior to you being elected to these positions. Mabuhay!
