Murillo: North Korea’s Kim and USA’s Donald

THEY say that World War 3 has been prevented with the recent meeting in Singapore of two of the most powerful leaders in the world.

Kim Jong Un has been flaunting his nuclear weapons to the international public, making millions of people fear for the worst. Donald Trump of the USA, with his controversial announcements and statements, negatively affect not only the Americans, but many people all over the world.

Pope Francis has time and again prayed and voiced his fears for the possibility of a third World War if nothing is done. World leaders continue fostering alliances here and there including our Du30 and China’s Xi Linping. Are these alliances in order to prevent the escalation of nuclear possibilities? Or are they forged to get allies by our side in case of a “war of the worlds?”

All who have heard stories of World War 2 cringe at the violence, the devastation of nations and the decrepit individual cultures that followed after four to five years of that hateful and soul wrecking war of 1941.

People after World War 2 complained of perverted attitudes, corrupt personalities and loss of moral values that seem to have been carried over till today. Effects of hunger and devastation, of poverty and loss of loved ones and properties? Perhaps and perhaps not. The psycho-social effects of war bestow upon its victims a change in many conscious and unconscious aspects of life.

The city of Baguio and the whole of the Cordillera were witnesses to the destruction and near-annihilation of this part of our country then and all people who suffered and got affected, prayed for peace and cowered in fear for their loved ones. During that time, some people were already talking about World War 3 and it was Albert Einstein who said that the next world war will use new chemicals and elements...yes there are many others and one of them is nuclear...

He said he does not know whether the world will still exist after the next global world war if any.

North Korea’s Kim Jong Un and USA’s Donald Trump have stepped towards lessening this possibility. In like manner, all nations of the world must create friendships and partnerships to do likewise. And for all the lay people who stand at the sides watching and wishing, let’s continue to pray for peace and help make the meeting of Kim Jong Un and Donald Trump a gate way to the sustenance of life and to a better world.
