LAST week, I wrote about my reflection on the December 1 events. City officials have justified this hullabaloo by saying that it is to strike a balance between economy and health. They are doing their best to do so, but alas, they haven’t really found the right balance between the two. One, obviously health, has taken the backseat.
After reading many reactions to what I wrote last week, I realized that we do not really have a choice but follow what the city officials tell us to do. This made me ask myself: “What can I do personally to help boost the economy of the city?”
In order to help boost the economy in my own special small way, I decided to promote micro-, small-, and medium-sized enterprises in Baguio and starting today, once a month, devote my column to doing so.
The other day, I visited one of the newest restaurants in the city, RDee’s Diner.
The interiors of the place gave me the best impression. From the outside, it looked like an ordinary diner; nothing really significant. Upon entering, I was just amazed at how cozy the restaurant is.
There are hanging signs with sayings that are hand-painted calligraphy, as well as photos and paintings of herbs, etc. that are framed or painted on the pillars. These were highlighted with rice grain lights which complemented the hominess of the decors.
The tables are made of wood, nothing remarkable but I like how they were able to use different chairs and benches to complement the ordinary tables. My personal favorite is the park bench.
Moving on to the food. The layout of the menu is very organized. Food and beverages are grouped accordingly. They are easy to look at, which makes it easier for one to look for what he/she wants to order.
Food preparation and serving time are relatively fast. My friends and I did not notice the time because we were so happy about taking pictures or selfies while our food was being prepared. It’s either preparation and serving were really fast or we were so pre-occupied or entertained that we didn’t notice if it was taking the time. Either way, it is still worth a commendation.
We didn’t order much as we were still full from what we ate for lunch that day, but since one friend is treating us, we grabbed that opportunity to try this new diner. We did not order much food but I am a firm believer that if one set of food is reflective of the whole menu.
I was not disappointed with the food we ordered. They were really good and I really enjoyed them. Most of the dishes on the menu are served in other restaurants, too, but the ones we ordered were not only a feast to the eyes but also brought happiness to my taste buds and to my tummy, too.
The other week, I mentioned in this column that I love milk tea. RDee’s Diner serves, guess what? Milk tea! I ordered, guess again? Wintermelon!
It is worth the mention that their milk tea is one of the best I’ve tasted so far. My friends ordered other flavors like Hokkaido, Cookies and Cream, Red Velvet. They only have good words to say about what they ordered. There are many more flavors that I may try in the future.
It is worth visiting again soon. You should, too.
