BAGUIO’S Frisbee squad guns for a podium finish as they see action in the upcoming Philippine Flying Disc Association (PFDA) mixed nationals 2018 slated September 15 to 16.

To be held in Alabang, the Baguio Lions Ultimate will be see action in the two day tournament that will also be joined by some of the best Frisbee teams coming from other parts of the country such as Tuggegarao, Pampanga, Visayas, and Metro Manila.

Lions Ultimate team captain Abigail Marigza said the seven aside competition is also a way of promoting the sport in country.

Marigza added this will be the first time a Baguio team will be invited in the national tournament and hopes to make good in their competition that will also be joined by the national squad.

The squad is also seeking the help of good Samaritans for their fares and accommodation during the two day competition.

According to the PFDA website, ultimate is a non-contact, self-refereed team sport played with a flying disc (or Frisbee™).

A Frisbee is a gliding toy or sporting item that is generally plastic and roughly 20 to 25 centimetres (8 to 10 in) in diameter with a lip used recreationally and competitively for throwing and catching,

Two teams of seven players compete on a playing field about the same length as a football field, but narrower. At each end of the playing field there is an end zone. Each team defends one endzone. They score a goal if one of their players catches the disc in the opposite end zone.

The player with the disc is called the thrower. The thrower may not run with the disc. Instead they move the disc by passing to team-mates in any direction.

The defensive team gets possession of the disc if an offensive team’s throw is not caught by a player of the same team. Then the defensive team becomes the offensive team and can try to score in the opposite end zone.

PFDA website adds ultimate relies upon a Spirit of the Game that places the responsibility for fair play on every player. There are no referees; the players are solely responsible for following and enforcing the rules, even at World Championship. Competitive play is encouraged, but never at the expense of respect between players, adherence to the rules, and the basic joy of play. (Roderick Osis)
