Vicente: Benefits of sweating

MOST of the time, sweating is unappreciated because it is messy and wet. But sweating is beneficial for our health. Why we do we sweat and why is it healthy?

Though sweating is often perceived disgusting, it's important to know why we should.

Our skin, which is the largest organ, is essentially our third kidney.

Sweat glands help our skin filter toxins out of the body, which in turn boosts our immune system. Sweating also cools our body and maintains proper body temperature.

However, there are two distinct ways in which we sweat: the eccrine glands produce sweat to regulate body temperature and are found all over our body. The apocrine glands, which are linked to hair follicles (e.g., underarms), primarily produce sweat triggered by emotional stressors, such as fear and anxiety, along with body odor.

Yet when we sweat all over, as with intense exercise, good things happen to our body: circulation increases throughout our organs, muscles, and tissue; our skin releases toxins such as alcohol and waste products which helps our body detoxify and eliminate salt from the body which can help prevent kidney stones from forming.

Prolonged sweating also leads to increased thirst and the need to drink more water, which is also helpful in lowering the risk of kidney stones. The pores on our skin open up and allow for a protective barrier to form against pathogens, thus reducing bacteria on the skin. This can benefit many skin problems such as acne.

When we were young, our parents say one way of telling if their child is healthy is if he or she is heavy on sweating, so there we go parents knows best.

Sweating in exercise is also a good indication that one is burning fat but only after 30 minutes, the first shed of liquid is just water then salts, toxins, fats etc. comes after.

This is why wellness salons are even offering saunas to induce sweating because it does wonders for the body and a person's health through the effects that is brought about by sweating which triggers the organs to work their functions.

The process and benefits that involves sweating is the process of hydration and dehydration cycle that allows the body to be fueled with liquid and use it for its detoxification.

Sweating without recovery becomes disaster and fatal that could cause health complications and even death, while sweating releases toxins it may also be releasing some nutrients needed by the body thus the need to replenish to make sure that lost nutrients are replaced.

Sweating helps in healing wounds due to better regulation of blood circulation that helps activate healing glands of the body that exhumes natural antibiotics, aides the kidney in its cleaning function, acts as brains happy juice that stimulates endorphins that acts as pain killers of the body and sweating acts as your personal aircon that helps regulate body temperature.

Sweating has many benefits that overlap the "eww" and disgusting feeling.

The important thing is knowing how to manage your sweating so as not to affect people around you and keep your personal hygiene.
