THE COUNTRY’S top mixed martial arts team will soon have its own home.

Benguet caretaker Representative Eric Go Yap on Thursday, February 20, promised to help Team Lakay to have its own gym that could be compared to the best found in Thailand in Southeast Asia.

Yap visited the rented gym by Team Lakay Thursday morning, February 20, after lauding the squad recently for bringing pride to the country.

“I will seek for a lot measuring 1,000 to 1,500 square meters where a building can be constructed to house the gym,” said Yap, an ACT-CIS Party-list congressman.

Yap added he will seek help from other groups to source out funds for the construction of the gym, which will also house other sports events.

The Benguet caretaker earlier met with Benguet Governor Melchor Diclas to grant the segregation of the said lot with the sports complex.

“We want something close to world standards,” said Yap.

Yap also gave assurance to Team Lakay he will help pay for the monthly rent of the team’s gym in Barangay Pico.

Coach Mark Sangaio welcomed the assistance from the solon saying this would help them inspire more locals to strive and be driven when it comes to sports.

“Masayang masaya kasi finally napakingan din yung aming dasal na magkaroon ng world class na gym na pwedeng pag trainingan ng mga bata,” Sangiao added.

Yap added he will also seek sponsors to help fund training and allowances for members who are slated to compete.

The solon also envisions that the popularity of Team Lakay and the art of mixed martial arts in the Philippines would help decrease the illegal drug use not only in the region but the whole nation.
