Search is on for the next Metrobank Foundation Outstanding Filipinos

THE Metrobank Foundation Network of Outstanding Teachers and Educators (NOTED) in Northern Mindanao started its information campaign for the Search for Outstanding Filipinos last Friday, January 4, in Pearlmont Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City.

Metrobank Foundation Outstanding Filipinos is the most prestigious career-service award for Filipino exemplars in the academe, military and police sectors.

According to Metrobank Foundation, it recognizes 10 Filipino exemplars composed of four teachers, three soldiers and three police officers.

"We're hoping to produce outstanding individuals for this year," NOTED-Northern Mindanao President doctor Mercelita Jandayan Labial, who was also an Outstanding Teacher Awardee in 2010, said.

Led by Labial, several Outstanding Teacher Awardees have shared their testimonies and experiences when they joined the Search for Outstanding Filipinos. Those were: doctor Ruben Abucayon, NOTED-Northern Mindanao Secretary and Outstanding Teacher Awardee in 2007; O'Marie Theresse Bagas, NOTED-Northern Mindanao moderator and treasurer and an awardee in 2008; doctor Enerio Ebisa, NOTED-Northern Mindanao vice president and an awardee in 2014; doctor Mark Anthony Torres, NOTED-Northern Mindanao communication officer and an awardee in 2016; and Mary Jane Ramo, who is also a NOTED-Northern Mindanao communication officer and an awardee in 2018.

"Region-10 (Northern Mindanao) had produced outstanding teachers, soldiers and policemen. So it is not far from reality that we will produce one, two, three or more this year's Search for Outstanding Filipinos," Labial said.

The Metrobank Foundation Outstanding Filipino award is conferred for being an exemplary public servant and, more importantly, is worthy of such recognition because he/she is an active agent of positive change and influence in their communities.

Each Outstanding Filipino will receive P1 million cash prize, a trophy, and a golden medallion.

Present during the information campaign last Friday were various teachers from different schools in Cagayan de Oro and Iligan City. There were also representatives from the 4th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army.

The information campaign details the guidelines for the Search for Outstanding Filipinos as the Metrobank Foundation began to accept nominations.

According to its guidelines, the nominators must be of legal age and should not be related to the nominee (i.e. immediate family member, relative). Other than principals and school heads for teacher nominees, and immediate superiors of soldiers and police officers, others who can nominate include, but are not limited to: government officials/leaders; journalists or members of any media organization; and members of the church, civil society and academe.
