CAFES are generally described as a place with relaxing ambiance, good lighting, with interior decors like paintings and pictures, and serve tasty drinks and food. They are also highly associated with coffees and pastries. They have become trendy businesses nowadays especially since millennials prefer to hang out and enjoy a drink of their choice with their friends on these places.
However, a themed cafe is rare to find and perhaps unheard of in Cagayan de Oro, much more a unicorn themed cafe.
But it does exist.
Sugar Rush Dream Cafe, located in Vamenta Boulevard, Barangay Carmen, is a shop that welcomes its customers with its magical and dream-like ambiance that draws out the inner kid in them.
Although the cafe also serves coffee and fruity drinks, Sugar Rush Dream Cafe is known for its sweets, both drinks and pastries, which brings sugar rush especially for sweet-toothed people.
“Magkaka-sugar rush ka sa menu namin (You'll experience sugar rush in our menu). From the pastries, from the drinks, magshu-sugar rush ka talaga (you will really get sugar rush),” Bernadette Bonifacio, co-owner of the cafe, said.
Established in December 2017, the Sugar Rush Dream Cafe attracts both the kids and child at hearts with its artistic designs in its unicorn themed interior and in their colorful drinks.
According to Bonifacio, the unicorn artwork in the walls of the cafe was painted by Kagay-anon artist Emmanuel Mulawan, who recently won three gold medals in the World Art Olympiad of 2018.
It’s not only in the walls of the establishment where you can see traces of the magical one-horned creature, unicorn stuff toys and cushions are also present within the cafe for the customers to play or take pictures with.
Unicorn costumes are also available. Just purchase at least P300 worth of products in the cafe and you can put on the costume, take a selfie and revel in the comfy feeling the onesie gives you.
“Unicorn is something unique. So lahat ng papasok dyan (all who enters the establishment), they will feel magical and magbabalik sila, mga kids at kids at heart, kung baga, mare-reminisce nila (they will surely come back, both the kids and the kids at heart won’t help but reminisce),” Bonifacio said.
In line with their theme is their rainbow cupcakes, frappes and milk teas designed with sprinkles and marshmallows. It’s like serving magic in a form of drinks and food.
“Hindi lang sya (It’s not just a) simple order like something chocolate, just plain chocolate drink. We make sure that it has a design. Diba pag mas maraming design, ang inumin mas masarap (A drink with several designs is more appetizing),” Bonifacio said.
Sugar Rush Dream Cafe is perhaps one of the cutest and fantastical cafe in Cagayan de Oro City, in which not only the children will love but also the in trend millennials.
