AUTHORITIES have rounded up at least 91 people in simultaneous anti-tambay operations around Cagayan de Oro City on Thursday night, June 28.

All police stations have submitted their accomplishment after city police director Senior Superintendent Nelson Aganon ordered the implementation of anti-loitering related ordinances in the city.

Of the said figure, 28 were arrested under the jurisdiction of police station (PS) 4 in Carmen; 17 each in PS2 (Cogon) and PS9 (Macasandig); 4 each in PS1 (Divisoria), PS5 (Macabalan) and PS8 (Lumbia); five each in PS3 (Agora), PS7 (Bulua) and PS10 (Cugman); and two in PS6 (Puerto).

But, violators in the area of responsibility of PS7 were just reprimanded and told to go home.

Superintendent Mardy Hortillosa II, spokesperson of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo), said the tambays were arrested for violating the ordinance prohibiting the drinking of alcoholic beverages in public places.

Violators were detained at the detention facility of respective police stations while others were jailed at the Maharlika detention cell in the old Cocpo headquarters in Carmen.

Hortillosa said the police will charge the violators and it would be up to the court to determine the bail bond.

"Prisohon sila unya pasakaan sa kaso ang korte na mag decide kung pila ang ilang pyansa (The will be detained and charged. It will be up to the court to determine their bail bond)," Hortillosa said.

Hortillosa said violators have cooperated during the arrest though some were perplexed by the arrest. But he said there were no violent reactions among those rounded up.

He said policemen were only ordered to handcuffed violators who will resist violently.

"Nag-cooperate man pero dili malikayan naa gyud sakit sa dughan," he said.

Aganon said the city police would continue implementing the arrest of individuals who may pose danger to the public while on the streets through enforcing the local laws and ordinances.

The Cocpo chief maintained that his men will uphold and respect human rights while carrying out the police's new strategy in curbing criminality.

"Cocpo asks the cooperation of the people and encourages the public to obey the ordinances," Aganon said.
