Another Covid-19 suspect dies, swab result still pending

A 77-YEAR-OLD woman from Barangay Canitoan with one week history of cough and fever is the latest fatality among the Covid-19 suspect cases admitted in Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC).

The patient was transferred from JR Borja General Hospital to NMMC. She arrived at the emerging diseases emergency room of NMMC already in critical condition.

Dr. Bernard Rocha, NMMC medical officer, said the woman's relatives opted not to resuscitate and intubate the patient.

The patient died at 6:30 a.m. due to acute respiratory failure secondary to community-acquired pneumonia (high risk). She was swabbed post mortem.

The woman's remains were cremated at 6:30 p.m. of the same day.

Tracing of those who were in close contact with the 77-year-old woman has started, City Health Office Epidemiologist Dr. Joselito Retuya said.

Retuya said they have already identified 12 direct contacts of the deceased woman.

Another patient who passed away was an 84-year-old male from outside Cagayan de Oro who died due to acute myocardial infarction at 2:35 a.m. Monday, May 18.

The 84-year-old man also had complications of acute respiratory failure secondary to community-acquired pneumonia (high risk) and hypertensive cardiovascular disease.
