THE City Government of Cagayan de Oro has recorded a total of 2,777 returnees from abroad and different areas of the country from April 30 to July 7, Emergency Operations Center head Dr. Lorraine Nery reported on Wednesday, July 8.

According to the data of the City Health Office, 53 or two percent of the returnees have tested positive for Sars-CoV-2.

While some of the returnees were immediately brought to the city isolation unit, there are others who requested to undergo home quarantine, in which, Nery said, they are under strict monitoring.

Of the 2,777 returnees, 714 were overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and 2,063 are locally stranded individuals (LSI). Tested positive for coronavirus disease (Covid-19) among the returning OFWs are 10 or 1.5 percent, while 43 or two percent among the total LSIs tested positive.

The Covid-positive patients, at present, are in the Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facility.

On Tuesday morning, July 7, 300 LSIs from Manila arrived in Cagayan de Oro as part of the "Hatid Tulong Initiative" and were brought straight to the holding area of the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines.

Mayor Oscar Moreno, for his part, said the city will continue to welcome ROFs and LSIs and will be given proper care to prevent an "exponential increase" in Covid cases.

"Dili ta angay mahadlok sa mga ROFs/LSIs. Ang impact sa atong pagtabang dako kayo nga relief that we are giving not just to them but to the community at large," Moreno said.

"The challenge is ato na lang gyud i-level up," he added.
