Oro to adopt IATF guidelines on GCQ

MAYOR Oscar Moreno on Saturday, May 2, announced that Cagayan de Oro will no longer issue local guidelines on the implementation of the general community quarantine (GCQ) instead the city will adopt the GCQ guidelines issued by the Interagency Task Force (IATF).

This means that the executive order issued by the city mayor is suspended and will no longer be in effect upon the effectivity of the unified guidelines and no new executive order will be issued.

“There will be no need any more for new guidelines from the local level,” Moreno said, pointing out that the IATF guidelines supersedes any existing form of community quarantine imposed by a local government unit.

“And also, ang local level cannot alter, modify the level of the quarantine by itself kay kinahanglan kana sa IATF,” he added.

Meanwhile, the city mayor said he received letters from malls in Cagayan de Oro asking for the opening of their establishments.

In his letter of reply, Moreno said they will be assessing the situation, taking into account the health data, the capacity, and its enforcement.

“We told them we cannot sacrifice, compromise the safety and health of the people,” Moreno said.

Moreno further said that under the unified guidelines, there will be limited opening of malls in the city.

“Pwede na mag open (Malls may be open) in the limited scale pero dili tanan establishments pwede mag open (but not all establishments are allowed to open),” Moreno said.

However, he added, they will have to conduct consultations from the health authorities.

Under the GCQ guidelines, limited operations in malls and shopping centers will be allowed, except for leisure establishments and services which will remain closed.
