Oro’s new suspected Covid-19 patient dies

A 62-YEAR-OLD female from Barangay Carmen, Cagayan de Oro City died hours after she was admitted at the Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) on Friday, May 15, medical specialist Dr. Bernard Rocha reported.

Rocha said the 62-year-old woman from Macanhan, Barangay Carmen was admitted on Friday morning, with her status as guarded and was considered a suspect case or patient under investigation (PUI) for the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

Her status changed to critical on the evening of the same day and her swab was taken around 9 p.m.

She was pronounced dead at 10:30 p.m. with the final diagnosis of acute decompensated heart failure second to coronary artery disease, hypertensive cardiovascular disease; cardiomegaly; and sinus tachycardia.

Rocha said the woman had underlying co-morbidities and was also diagnosed with community-acquired pneumonia (high risk) and a mixed metabolic and respiratory acidosis.

The remains of the 62-year-old woman were cremated. The City Health Office (CHO) has also started its contact tracing for the close contacts of the patient.

CHO Epidemiologist Dr. Joselito Retuya assured that the deceased Covid-19 suspect patient was not related nor one of the close contacts of the 61-year-old Covid-19-positive woman from Barangay Carmen.

Meanwhile, the CHO has recorded 453 total number of new arrivals in Cagayan de Oro from March 30 to May 15, 122 of which are still undergoing the prescribed 14-day quarantine.

City health officer-in-charge Dr. Lorraine Nery said of the 122 individuals, only one had manifested mild symptoms of respiratory illness with cough and no fever.

Nery said one person has been treated by the CHO’s medical officer with swab taken for RT-PCR testing.

“Rest assured that this particular individual is being isolated and being monitored strictly,” Nery said.
