CITY Government retirees who served the local government of Cagayan de Oro are still finding ways to reinstate their previous retirement benefits despite the Commission on Audit (COA) found that it is not provided by laws and policies.
Former employee Ruel Sabuero, who retired on January 1, said he had to visit the City Accounting Office to know why his benefits was reduced.
Sabuero said this when he also learned that he was among many employees who also complained of the deductions. Most of the retirees complained about the reductions in their retirement benefits for receiving several bonuses in the previous administration.
City Administrator Teodoro Sabuga-a Jr., said that more than a hundred city hall retirees' benefits are deducted of as much as P11,000 each.
Among the bonuses including crisis allowance, personnel productivity motivation allowance, and rice allowance. He also said these are given to city hall employees since 1993 to 2010.
Sabuga-a put the blame on the former administration, under the leadership of former mayor Vicente “Dongkoy” Emano, who he claimed to have been deceived the employees.
“Giilad nila ang mga empleyado sa bonus nga illegal (They deceived the employees of the illegal bonus). Pwede man makahatag pero kinahanglan subay sa requirement (You can provide but it should follow the requirement),” he said.
