POLICE Lieutenant Colonel Allan Curato of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo) reported that as of noon Monday, October 5, around 50 persons were issued with Ordinance Violation Receipt (OVR) after they were caught violating the mandatory wearing of face masks and social distancing policy.
Starting October 5, people caught violating the Ordinance 13946-2020, which mandated the wearing of face masks and observance of physical distancing protocols in public spaces during epidemics and pandemics, will be paying the P2,000 fine.
However, for those who cannot afford the P2,000 fine, they will be conducting community service for three days and pay P500.
The City Hall's Disciplina Muna Advocacy Team, on the other hand, said more than 100 persons were apprehended as of noon of Monday, most of them are caught in the Cogon market area.
Oliver Egypto, chief of the Office of Community Affairs, said people should not fear the P2,000 fine but rather the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) that have infected more than 800 residents of Cagayan de Oro.
"Naa tawo nga di mahadlok sa virus apan mahadlok sa P2,000 fine. Di na maong tumong sa penalties nga gi-imposar sa siyudad kay kinahanglan mahadlok sa Covid-19, di sa P2,000 nga multa kay kon matakdan ka, matakdan nato atong mahal sa kinabuhi," Egypto said.
As of October 4, Cagayan de Oro has recorded an additional 38 persons who have tested positive for Covid-19, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 890.
Of the number, 338 are ROFs/LSIs and 552 are local cases.
The number of active cases is at 301, 25 of whom are admitted at the Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC), 258 are outpatients, and 18 are ROFs/LSIs.
The total number of recoveries is at 548 and the total deaths is now at 41.
