Contact tracing reveals Carmen woman visited public places

CAGAYAN de Oro City Health Office has released a timeline on the whereabouts of the 61-year-old female who tested positive for the new virus that causes the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) and died May 5.

In a press conference Thursday, May 7, City Epidemiologist Dr. Joey Retuya said the patient, a resident of Barangay Carmen, went to several public areas on the first week of April until finally exhibiting flu symptoms at the end of April.

Retuya said their surveillance began April 7 to 9, when the patient

bought sacks of rice at the Carmen public market.

On April 4 to 11, the patient helped in the distribution of pork products at Zone 10, Barangay Carmen. On April 16 to 20, she also helped in the repacking of rice and food packs.

On April 21, she stayed home but also sold vegetables. Four days later, she went to a money remittance hub in Barangay Carmen.

On April 26, she lined up at the distribution of relief goods in Zone 8, Barangay Carmen. On the same day, the patient also started exhibiting symptoms, such as cough and started home quarantine.

On May 1, she was admitted to the Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC). Swabs were taken on May 3, but she died two days later due to acute respiratory failure secondary to community acquired pneumonia.

Her swab results, which came out May 6, turned out positive for the coronavirus.

Retuya is now calling on the public who were in these areas at the same time the patient was there, to inform them immediately.

So far, the CHO had identified high-risk contacts, which include seven members of the family and the taxi driver who brought her to the hospital. They have been placed in one of the city's isolation units.

Mayor Oscar Moreno has also ordered to cordon the area where the patient lives, upon the recommendation of the health officials.

"Mohangyo ako sa katawhan, please cooperate, this is for your sake. Naay uban gusto mopahawa na sa area, dili man kinahanglan mohawa, labina kadtong naay contact sa hingtungdan, please stay at home and we will monitor the situation regularly," he added.
