Cops beef up security for Christmas, New Year

SECURITY measures are in place for Christmas and New Year’s Day.

The Provincial Police Office, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) and Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council, launched their “Ligtas Kapaskuhan 2019” campaign, which provides operational guidelines to all police forces including the Philippine National Polcie (PNP) and Philippine Army during the holiday break.

“So, we have prepared a lot for this and security plans are ironed out. Our police forces are ready for this holiday season,” PNP Provincial Director Police Colonel Robert Roy Bahian said.

The police will set up public assistance desks in areas where people converge such as churches, malls and markets to ensure the safe observance of the holiday season. The public assistance desks will operate until 2020.

Meanwhile, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and the Department of Health (DOH) also launched their “Oplan Iwas Paputok” campaign.

According to BFP Provincial Director Gregorio Elbambo, their personnel and firetrucks are on standby in case of emergencies, especially in areas designated for pyrotechnic displays.

The BFP, he added, is also on the lookout for vendors selling illegal firecrackers such as Piccolo, Watusi and Goodbye Philippines, among others, as well as those selling without permits.
