Cops to file raps vs truck driver in poll exec's death

POLICE arrested the driver of a truck carrying boulders which fell and killed Bukidnon Provincial Election Supervisor lawyer Stalin Baguio on Friday, September 27.

The freak accident occurred around 10 a.m. when a boulder fell from the moving truck and hit Baguio's vehicle along the road in barangay Bagontaas, Valencia City.

An investigation revealed that the boulder directly hit Baguio in the face who was driving his Toyota Fortuner car. The car fell in the drainage by the roadside due to the impact.

Baguio was still rushed to Adventist Medical Center but died shortly. His companion inside the vehicle, a certain Lee Marvin Rapirap, survived the accident.

At 5 p.m. on the same day, the Valencia City Police arrested the suspect in Barangay Bangcud, Malaybalay City after a hot pursuit operation.

Valencia City Police Chief Lieutenant Colonel Surki Sereñas refused to name the suspect, pending the filing of the case Monday, September 30. He will face reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to property.

He said the suspect was identified through a CCTV footage and an eyewitness account.

The suspect, arrested in a truck yard, told police he was unaware of the accident. Police also learned that the truck is used for quarry operation.

"But we are certain the rock came from the truck," Sereñas added.

Meanwhile, Baguio's remains were brought to St. Peter Funeral Homes in Barangay Lumbia, Cagayan de Oro City, over the weekend.
