Council appoints city hospital chief

THE Cagayan de Oro City Council on Monday, May 6, confirmed the appointment of Dr. Ramon Nery as the chief of the JR Borja General Hospital.

In a letter to the legislative body, Mayor Oscar Moreno said the Local Government Code provides that unless otherwise provided, heads of departments and offices shall be appointed by the city mayor with the concurrence of the majority of all City Councilors.

Moreno, in a speech last week, said this development is long overdue.

He lauded Nery for leading the development of the city hospital.

"We owe it to him for his hard work," he said.

Under Nery's leadership, the city hospital increased its bed capacity with the construction of the North Wing and South Wing buildings.

The hospital also recently opened a new building, laundry rooms, eight intensive care unit beds, among others. (PJ Orias)
