DICT, Iligan Chamber sign agreement on free WiFi project

THE Iligan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation Incorporation (ICCIFI) and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) recently inked a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for free public WiFi connection to two hinterland barangays in Iligan.

According to ICCIFI President Reggie Punongbayan, the free WiFi project will help transform lives and empower communities.

"Nakita nato nga daghan kaayong kakulangon ang hinterland barangays; that's why gipili nato sila nga recipients sa kani nga free wifi nga gihatag sa DICT," Punongbayan said.

Through the signed agreement, residents of Barangays Mandulog and Digkilaan will be provided with free WiFi services.

DICT Head Eugene Raposala said the said service will address the digital divide in the areas.

"We are really hoping that it will be done in the hinterland barangay para maka benefit pud ang medyo layo and to address the digital divide," Raposala said.

Barangay Mandulog Chairperson Abungal Cauntongan, for his part, expressed his gratitude for the upcoming project, saying that the internet has become an essential in their barangay, particularly in the education of their students and their livelihood.
