DOH: Surge of Covid-19 cases expected

DEPARTMENT of Health (DOH)-Northern Mindanao Director Dr. Adriano Suba-an said Tuesday, November 3, that while they are anticipating the surge in coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases in the region, what they are trying to prevent is the immediate increase that will overwhelm the health sector.

"It's a part of our preparation kanang scenario nga mag surge na gyud ang kaso. Ang atong ginapreparahan karon is kung mag surge man sya, nga mag accelerate pa ang kaso, it will not be fast enough, that it will not overwhelm our health system [to the point] nga dili nato mapugngan ang pagpangamatay sa daghang tao in a very short period of time," Suba-an said.

He said in the epidemiological curve of any outbreak, especially the virus, they expect that there will be an acceleration of cases.

"Ang dili lang nato gusto mahitabo is kalit ang pagtaas sa mga kaso kay kung kalit man gyud, ma-overwhelm ang atong mga health facilities," Suba-an said.

He added that they are preventing the scenario wherein the hospital will find it difficult to accommodate and provide quality services to the severe to critical patients due to the overwhelming number of Covid-19 cases.

The immediate rise in Covid-19 cases can also affect the healthcare workers due to the high possibility of being exposed to coronavirus-positive patients.

"We are flattening the curve by implementing standard measures, katong BIDA, ang atong distancing, face mask, the face shield, ug pag sanitize sa kamot. All of those actually are part of our effort in flattening the curve," Suba-an said.
