Guv asks IATF to place MisOr, Oro under ECQ

MISAMIS Oriental Governor Yevgeny Emano on Thursday, May 7, requested the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) to consider placing Misamis Oriental, including Cagayan de Oro City, under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) after learning that the city already has local transmission of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

Emano said he is writing a letter request addressed to President Rodrigo Duterte through the regional IATF.

The governor explained that Cagayan de Oro was included in his request since it is situated at the center of the province.

We have wrote a letter requesting through the regional IATF to put Misamis Oriental including Cagayan de Oro because as a doctor, the chief of provincial task force said there is already a local transmission)," Emano said in a radio interview.

The Capitol's top official said they opted to write a request addressed to the IATF to ensure that national guidelines are followed.

Emano maintained that his move is not about politics but anchored on his effort to protect the people of the province as the neighboring area is "complacent."

I believe the Covid-19 has not yet entered the province and then there's this neighboring city which is being complacent, then why would we wait to be infiltrated? As much as we can do, if the law allows, we will take precautions to protect the people)," Emano said.

Emano met with the provincial task force against Covid-19 to prepare should the IATF approves his request.
