Health office needs more doctors, nurses in fight vs Covid-19

THE City Health Office (CHO) of Cagayan de Oro started identifying reserved medical and nursing personnel who will be put on duty in case of a surge in the number of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases in the city.

CHO officer-in-charge Dr. Lorraine Nery said at present, they have offered trainings to identified reserved medical and nursing personnel as well as refresher courses to those who are not active in the clinical practice.

“Naa na tay na trained sa primary level sa atong mga community, naa na tay mga gipahigayon nga infection prevention control nga mga training pero kani karon medyo i-scale up nato pati ang katong mga medical practitioners and nursing practitioners kun mahimo iabot na siya sa clinical case management,” Nery said.

(We have trained people in primary level among communities, we have conducted trainings infection prevention control but we need to scale this up including medical practitioners and nursing practitioners and if possibl they need clinical case management.)

Diminishing blood supply

Meanwhile, the blood donation program still continues despite the ongoing Covid-19 threat due to the diminishing supply of blood.

Nery said the decreasing supply of blood is not only an issue in Cagayan de Oro but also in other parts of the country.

She added it is caused by the cancellation of several bloodletting or blood donation activities.

“Isa na siya na atong gitagaan og pagtagad karon, ang voluntary donation program nato,” Nery said.

(It is one of those programs we give focus nowadays, the voluntary donation of blood.)

Nery said she will be bringing the said issue up to the Liga of Barangay meeting, in hopes that they can gain support from the barangay captains.
