In-person classes possible in hinterland areas in Oro

CAGAYAN de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno said limited face-to-face classes may be allowed in areas with low to zero internet connectivity and have experienced difficulty in accessing learning modules.

Moreno said he talked with City Schools Division Superintendent Cherry Mae Limbaco on the possibility of doing in-person classes in hinterland barangays, which are areas with low Covid-risk in Cagayan de Oro and have better ventilation.

"Yes, we would like to do that. Of course, with the participation of our medical team," Moreno said.

"Education is very, very important. Lisod kaayo nga ang bata will default in the learning process, alkanse ang mga bata. And time lost is lost forever and mao nga gapangita gyud og pamaagi," he added.

As for the guidelines for in-person classes, Moreno said he would leave it to the Department of Education (DepEd) and health authorities.

"Kining in-person learning would be more appropriate didto sa areas where lisod ang virtual ug lisod sad ang modular. Ayuhon lang nato and ang importante diha ang guidelines," Moreno said.

Earlier this week, President Rodrigo Duterte approved the DepEd's plan to conduct pilot face-to-face classes in select schools in "low-risk" areas in the country for the whole month of January 2021.
