JR Borja General Hospital to open ICU

THE JR Borja General Hospital (JRBGH) is hiring more than 180 new doctors, nurses, and hospital staffs as it prepares to open its first ever intensive care unit (ICU) and hopefully become a level II hospital.

As the city hospital celebrates its 55th founding anniversary, Dr. Ramon Nery, JRBGH chief of hospital, said part of the hospital's modernization is completing the eight-bed ICU.

From eight beds, Nery said they are hoping to expand it 20 ICU beds.

Nery said this accomplishment is proof that the hospital has come a long way, from being a neglected hospital in the past to being now a primary choice of healthcare for Kagay-anons.

Nery said before, the JRBGH only earns some P20 million annually, but now, it earns P20 million per month.

The number of patients has also risen to an average of 1,500 patients every day.

"Hopefully, dili na ta mo-refer sa atong complicated cases sa lain hospital. We'll be having the services of a tertiary hospital both clinical and diagnostics," he said.

"Clinical, meaning naa natay specialists, departmentalized na, then we will have more diagnostic procedures," he added.

Nery said the hospital now has standard equipment such as the Digital X-Ray, which allows the radiologist to do remote reading.

It is also equipped with endoscopy, colonoscopy, which he said, are very expensive procedures in a private hospital.

"We have more to expect with private and public partnerships," he said.

The JRBGH is having a week-long celebration for their 55th founding anniversary, which kicked off at the Monday (August 20) flag raising with a gathering of the JRBGH employees.

Nery also led the distribution of whistles to all City Hall employees. He said they are urging employees to blow the whistle if they are at risk.
