Lechon catches ire of Patag residents

A LECHON and piggery business was closed down in Barangay Patag, Cagayan de Oro City, after residents complained of a foul odor coming from the said business.

The residents already filed a petition for the cancellation of its business permit but the owner said his business has been operating for eight years now, and has complied all the necessary requirements.

The barangay ordered the business to temporarily close down, however, residents want it closed permanently.

Sergio Bautista, sanitary inspector of the City Health Office, cited that the slaughter of animals like pigs is only allowed in the designated slaughterhouses, and that any other area shall be prohibited.

“Ang pag slaughter dili lang bisan asa, didto ra gyud dapat sa slaughterhouses or any accredited area for slaughtering,” he said.

Once meat are slaughtered outside the designated areas, these are already considered hot meat or locally known as “botcha.”

The committee will hear the issue again next week with the representatives from City Legal Office and City Veterinary Office.
