THE local government of Magsaysay in Misamis Oriental has adopted the RxBox telehealth device for enhanced healthcare services in the municipality.

In partnership with the Department of Science and Technology, the local government unit (LGU) will now make use of the unit at the Municipal Health Office.

RxBox is a multi-component system (biomedical device, electronic medical record system and telemedicine training) designed to provide better access to lifesaving health care services in isolated and disadvantaged communities nationwide.

The ceremonial turnover held on March 31 was held with the presence of Mayor Charlie Buhisan and Municipal Health Officer Dr. Fortunato Ramonal at the town hall. The department heads of the LGU witnessed the event.

Ramonal, in his acceptance speech, emphasized the features of the RxBox device and how it will positively impact the people of Magsaysay.

“With its telehealth system function, easy referral of patients to tertiary hospitals will be realized,” he said.

Buhisan expressed his gratitude to the DOST for receiving the RxBox device.

“Through this device, we can bring the healthcare services closer to the Filipinos,” said Buhisan.

He also signified the interest of the LGU in procuring the device by the time it will be commercially available.

The RxBox telehealth device is among the DOST’s efforts for a “Smarter Philippines.” It is also an ICT (Information and Communications Technology) innovation designed to support the Department of Health’s call for Kalusugang Pangkalahatan or Universal Health Care. Its major goal is to provide better access to life-saving health care services in isolated and disadvantaged communities nationwide. (PR)
