Man found dead in Iligan City

ILIGAN CITY -- A 30-year-old man with a hunchback was found dead along the highway in Purol 9, Erlindaville, Barangay del Carmen, this city on Monday, June 11.

The victim was identified as Michael Abapo Amam, a resident of Purok 2-B of the same barangay, who was discovered by a concerned citizen around 5 a.m.

According to a police report, another resident of the said barangay reported that around 2 a.m. she hear a gunshot nearby.

Senior Inspector Taha Tambog Jr., Deputy Station Commander of Iligan City Police Station (ICPS) 1, said a text messaged containing a threat was discovered on the victim’s cellular phone. The threat, according to Tahambog, told Amam not to disclose something he has a knowledge of.

"May nakaalitan daw sa dati niyang pinagtatrabahoan at iyan ang tinitingnan natin na anggulo (The victim had a fight with someone from his previous workplace and that is the angle we are looking into)," Tambog said.

Senior Inspector Felix Rabago, former chief of ICPS1, said the victim became their “helper” when they had their detachment in the area where he was shot.

"Mao to'y amoang sugo-sugoon pero wala may naka-report nga nangawat to siya, wala pud mi nakuha'ng report nga na-involve sa illegal drug activities (He was out helper but there was no reports regarding robbery nor involvement in illegal drugs)," Rabago said.

Police Office 3 Dennis James Alinsub, investigator of ICPS 1, said there were complaints of harassment against the victim but no rape cases.

"Daghan to reklamo nga mang boso or manglili pero rape wala (There are complaints of harassment but no rape)," Alinsub said.
