Man shot, stabbed to death over alcoholic drinks

A 51-YEAR-OLD man who had just sold a piece of land was shot and stabbed to death by a security guard after a heated altercation at a convenience store in Villanueva, Misamis Oriental past 12 midnight Saturday, February 29.

The victim was identified as Allan Bayutas, resident of Zone 2, Barangay Katipunan, Villanueva while the suspect was known as Arnold Adajar, 40, store security guard and resident of Tabok, Lagonglong town.

Police said the suspect reprimanded the victim that buying alcoholic beverages is prohibited.

The victim allegedly got mad and slapped the security guard, which prompted the latter to stab and shoot the victim at close range.

The altercation was captured by the store’s security camera.

“At first, the suspect did not immediately admit the crime. However, witnesses pointed that the suspect was the one who shot the victim,” police said.

Case investigator Staff Sergeant Greg Joe Gucor said they are following up the condition of the victim’s companion who was also hit on the left arm and is now receiving treatment at the hospital.

Gucor said the suspect and the victim had previous altercation sometime in December.

“Last December, nagkabikil na gihapon ni sila tungod lagi aning gabadlongon sa guard ang biktima nga magpalit og ilimnon unya masuko. Gabii mao gihapon sitwasyon pero gilaparo aning biktima ang guard mao tong nagbalos ang guard,” Gucor said.

Gucor clarified that the incident has nothing to do with the land sold by the victim.

Recovered from the crime scene were knife, 38 caliber revolver, motorcycle, and around P80,000 cash of the victim.

The suspect is now detained and will likely face murder charges.
