Mayor: Seniors, minors still not allowed to go outside

PEOPLE below 21 years old and over 60 years old are still not allowed to go outside and visit public places, especially with the increase of local cases in Cagayan de Oro, Mayor Oscar Moreno said Tuesday, October 13.

Moreno's statement came after receiving a request to allow senior citizens and minors to enter the malls.

Moreno said that apart from the fact that it is for the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) to decide on the matter, just looking at the rising number of local cases makes the move counter-productive.

"Pugong lang gyud ta and hopefully, atong ma-improve ang atong public health, ma-contain na nato ang pag-spread sa virus, sunod ang recoveries modaghan," Moreno said.

"We should stop the spread and accelerate the recoveries," he added.

He also said that he also received a letter from an economic group asking him if he can loosen up the curfew hours.

But he said it is also a counter-productive move, adding that he wanted the economy of Cagayan de Oro to pick up but not to the expense of the public health.

"We will get there. Ang importante is let's work together nga dili na makatakod ang virus. Naa diha ang focus dapat," Moreno said.

As of October 12, the City Health Office recorded 28 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in Cagayan de Oro to 1,096. The number of recoveries is at 699 and the deaths are 48.

"We don't like the lockdown to happen pero kung dili nato makontrolar, then that would be the solution. Pero naay pamaagi nga atong ma-solve. Gakson sa katawhan ang atong agenda sa non-pharmaceutical interventions or minimum public health standards," Moreno said.
