CAGAYAN de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno said Tuesday, December 8, that he has no problem with the possibility of the National Government imposing a nationwide firecracker ban.

"Og moingon ang national government nga walay fireworks, okay lang pud sa ako, walay problema," Moreno said.

On Monday, President Rodrigo Duterte said he is considering imposing a total ban on the use of firecrackers in the country next year to prevent injuries and deaths.

Duterte said he is thinking of banning all sorts of firecrackers just like in Davao City, where he was a mayor for almost 30 years.

He added that by mid-year of 2021, he may issue the necessary documents for the total ban of firecrackers and pyrotechnics.

Moreno, for his part, said there might be instances where fireworks displays would be sponsored by the government.

"That's what's being done in other countries. Wala nay fireworks sa individual pero ang gobyerno naay gai-sponsor nga fireworks spectacle," Moreno said.

The mayor said that at present, there are already designated areas in Cagayan de Oro where fireworks will be sold and where firework displays will be conducted.

"Ang plastado karon naay designated area, sunod naay accreditation process pati ang place where fireworks may be sold naay designated area gyapon," Moreno said.
