NDF decries recent red-tagging in Cagayan de Oro

THE National Democratic Front (NDF) in North Central Mindanao hits the alleged anonymous list, incriminating civilians and human rights workers as members of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP).

In a statement, the NDF called the list a military hit list, saying this "will only serve as antecedent to further violations."

"Due to its constant failure of putting an end to the New People's Army's armed struggle, the brutal regime recoursed to attacking civilians, including children and even infants," the statement reads.

In the region, the NDF said 16 civilians were "illegally arrested" and more than a thousand civilians are facing trumped-up charges.

"These attacks only demonstrate the brutalities of Duterte's martial law. The consequences committed over the grave violations of martial law in Mindanao still brought him discontent. The bloodthirsty regime will even perpetrate more violations so he can install a total authoritarian rule," it said.

"The NDF-NCMR is highly assured that the people will never be cowed. But rather, this will only invigorate the people's resistance against the Duterte' martial law. This felonious system will inevitably drive the

people to embrace the revolutionary movement to attain a safety, fair, democratic and socialist society," it added.

The 4th Infantry Division (4ID) earlier denied that the anonymous list sent to a hotel in Cagayan de Oro City last Friday, February 22, was theirs.

Brigadier General Gacal, commander of 4th ID, said the 4ID does not engage in "cheap propaganda." He said the list might have come from local communist groups to create confusion and division.

The 4ID said "these cowardly practices have been the old dirty tactics of local communist groups to create animosity in our peaceful society and later on blame the government, particularly the armed forces."

Gacal said the allegations by some groups that the military is responsible for the list is "an indicator of their desperate attempt to drive a wedge between the 4ID troops and their supportive stakeholders who have been instrumental in the success of 4ID operations particularly in the mass exodus of surrenderers."

"We are making friends, not enemies. The document shown by Karapatan members does not belong to us as we do not resort to cheap stunts to attain our goals. We call upon the concerned individuals to refrain from spreading false documents/reports," Gacal said.

"Most importantly, we want to assure the victims of this cheap propaganda that your 4ID in partnership with the PNP (Philippine National Police), does not engage in witch hunting and has in fact institutionalized a rigorous process of intel-gathering and vetting of information. Lastly, we are offering our security and other assistance should the victims need them," he added.
