NMMC prepared for possibility of another Covid-19 surge

THE Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) said it is already prepared for the possibility of another surge of Covid-19 cases in Cagayan de Oro.

But it is still asking for the cooperation of the public to prevent the health sector from being overwhelmed.

"We are preparing, we have prepared already. Pero ang solusyon really is with the people. Kinahanglan gyud dili ma overwhelm ang atong health sector," NMMC liaison officer Dr. Bernard Rocha said.

At present, the NMMC is still under code yellow. This means that the region's Covid-19 referral hospital is operating at 30 percent capacity dedicated to treating coronavirus-positive patients who are admitted to the said hospital.

Rocha assured that they are balancing their operating capacity for Covid-19 patients and the other patient population which consists of patients of general services like surgeries.

"Karon, we are balancing it already nga kaya na namo i-handle ang Covid situation as well as kining atong mga other nga mga patient population," Rocha said.

"Kinahanglan nga we have to co-exist kay dili pwede nga dili nato i-address gyapon ang the other patient population," he added.

Rocha also assured that there are beds allotted for Covid-19 patients and beds that are being prepared in case the bed capacity for Covid-19 cases are full.

"So far, naa mi sa mga 90 percent sa atong bed utilization. So if ever we have to already use the other beds, meaning that we have to go into code red, then we will announce that and then we will utilize it [the beds] as needed," he said.

As of July 25, 2021, there are 195 Covid-19 patients admitted at the NMMC Ereid enclosure.
