P10 minimum fare sought in Northern Mindanao

THE Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) in Northern Mindanao is set to recommend a P10 minimum fare for Public Utility Jeepneys (PUJs) across the region.

LTFRB-Northern Mindanao director Aminoden Guro said they will endorse to the LTFRB board en banc in central office the petition of a transport group for P10 minimum fare and P1.50 for succeeding kilometer.

Guro said the recommendation would be based on what was agreed during the consultative meeting with various stakeholders on Wednesday, August 15.

"Pero dili pa ni siya mao kay ang board en banc man ang mag decide," Guro said.

He said the board en banc would then either issue a consolidated decision or direct the LTFRB regional office to hold public hearing.

"Magpaabot lang ta sa decision sa board," he added.

Other transport organization in the region has petitioned for a P5 increase in the minimum fare.

Joel Gabatan of the National Confederation of Transport Union (NCTU) said they asked the LTFRB to have the minum fare P12 due to the skyrocketing prices of basic commodities.

Gabatan, however, said the group would not expect this would be approved.

"Wala nami nag expect nga mahatag na pero at least unta mahimong P9 ang minimum kay mahal na kaayo mga palaliton," he said.
