P156M allocated for flood control projects

AN official of the City Engineer's Office said the city has allocated a total of P156 million to address the urban flooding in Cagayan de Oro.

City Engineer Rolando Pacuribot said the amount is set aside for the construction and repair of drainage systems to connect them to the main drainage system constructed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Among the city's flood control projects include Alae Flood Control, Agusan Flood Control, Umalag River Protection (Tablon side), Bigaan River Protection, Cugman Riverbank Protection, Dagong Creek, Mindulog Creek Bank Protection, among others.

In a press conference, the DPWH has allocated P1.84 billion for flood mitigation projects in Cagayan de Oro.

So far, DPWH has released P680 million for the projects that are expected to be completed in 2022.

Major project areas include Lapasan, Camaman-an, Sapang, and Carmen.

Road right-of-way remains the number one obstacle to the implementation of drainage projects in the city.
