P25-M research center soon to rise in CMU

A P25 MILLION worth of Cattle Research, Development and Extension Center (Cardec) in Northern Mindanao will soon rise in Central Mindanao University (CMU), a project funded by the Department of Science and Technology-10 (DOST).

CMU president Dr. Jesus Antonio Derije said this is the biggest research funding of the DOST, and will boost the cattle industry in Northern Mindanao.

CMU, he said, is known for beef cattle production because of its wide pasteur area.

“This will help cattle raisers, and improve the economy especially for small farmers,” Derije said.

The project aims to address the need to discover other indigenous plants that can be tapped as organize source of feeds for animals for healthier livestock.

It also aims to know the extent of agrochemicals and antimicrobials, through the establishment of a livestock research and development center.

The center will be the venue of convergence of research and learning activities for researchers, students, farmers, livestock growers, agri-based entrepreneurs and livestock investors. (PJ Orias)
