Person of interest in killing of jeep driver nabbed

POLICE arrested on Tuesday, December 10, a person of interest (POI) in the shooting of a jeepney driver in Barangay Canitoan, Cagayan de Oro City on December 3.

Major Aldren Baculio, station commander of Bulua Police Station 7, identified the POI as Rholand Edralin, 35, a resident of Calaanan, Barangay Canitoan.

Edralin was arrested not for his possible involvement of the shooting, but for possessing shabu worth P500.

Baculio said Edralin and 42-year-old Ronald Cuizon, who is a driver and Edralin's neighbor, allegedly had a previous altercation based on their initial investigation.

Edralin allegedly threatened to kill Cuizon as a result of the fight.

"Ang ilang giawayan related lang gihapon sa illegal drugs (Their fight was related to illegal drugs)," Baculio said.

"Ongoing pa gihapon ang investigation sa iya, but as of now, iyang kaso is illegal drugs possession," Baculio added.

Cuizon, who was driving a Talakag liner jeepney, was gunned down and was subsequently stabbed by the suspect. He sustained 11 gunshot and stab wounds.

Baculio earlier said they are looking into personal grudge and illegal drugs as possible motives of the incident due to the intensity of the attack.
