Phividec admin cries foul over lawmaker's remarks on resignation

PHIVIDEC Industrial Authority Administrator Franklin Quijano said Misamis Oriental Second District Representative Juliette Uy has no basis to call for his resignation.

In a press conference Tuesday, June 18, Quijano said he is willing to step down from his position "if there's any reason at all for his resignation."

"Kung akoy ipa-resign, pwede man ko moresign. Sultii lang ko ninyo ug asa ko nasayop (I am willing to resign if asked to, just tell me where did I commit a mistake)," he said.

He said he told the president and the staff if there is a reason to leave, then he is willing to do so.

"I didn't apply in Phividec, but there's a problem in it. As a Filipino, I'm here because I want to help," he said.

Quijano said he has no idea why Uy kept on calling for him to resign, and even leading the calls to dissolve Phividec as a government body.

He said killing Phividec would mean putting up a stop to the country's industrialization, which he said is a top priority of the Duterte administration.

Uy earlier called for the immediate resignation of the entire administration of the Phividec Industrial Estate, particularly Quijano and Ports Division Chief Efledo Resma, over the South Korean garbage mess.

She said the South Korean garbage's intended destination was Phividec.

Uy added this incident only showed the "utter and shameless disregard of national dignity and the public outcry against all imported garbage by the Phividec authorities."

Uy warned that if the officials refuse to resign, she will instead call for the reduction of the budget of the Phividec to one peso and to file a bill calling for the complete and utter abolition of the Phividec and its takeover by the Philippine Economic Zone Authority.
