PNP inks deal with PIA, SM to enhance public information

THE Police Regional Office (PRO) in Northern Mindanao, the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) and the SM Malls in Cagayan de Oro signed on Thursday, November 22, a memorandum of agreement to conduct a quarterly press conference.

Northern Mindanao police director Timoteo Pacleb expressed optimism that the regular press forum will serve as an avenue to efficiently disseminate correct information to the public and bring the police closer to the community.

“We will definitely continue this regular press forum to give the public the right information that they need to know directly from us,” Pacleb said.

“This partnership is a welcomed development and we are happy that PRO10, PIA and SM entered into this agreement,” he added.

The event was hailed as pioneering effort on public information partnership among community stakeholders.

“SM Downtown Premier is happy to host this trailblazing event and welcomes the presence of PIA and PNP to the biggest SM mall in Mindanao,” SM Downtown public relations officer Ivy Guantero said.

PIA-Northern Mindanao chief Franklin Gumapon meanwhile said the signing of the MOA marks a significant collaboration between PNP and PIA.

“Our office acknowledges the PNP’s role in maintaining peace and order in every nook and cranny. To complement this, the PIA aims to assist the PNP in disseminating its programs, policies and services to the public to encourage a free flow of true and relevant information that will help them craft informed decisions,” Gumapon said.
