IN LINE with the Environment Month, City Mayor Oscar Moreno over the weekend issued an executive order adopting the 70s folk rock band Asin's "Kapaligiran" as the official environmental awareness song in day-care centers.
Moreno said there is a need to imbibe on the young generation of the city the importance of taking good care of the environment and helping mitigate the effects of climate change.
The song will be sung everyday and anytime in day-care centers to promote environmental consciousness among the children while they are in their formative years, City Administrator Teddy Sabuga-a said.
He said the song should bring the kids closer to Mother Earth.
Sabuga-a said the City Government considers Education and Environmental Protection as important components under its eight-point agenda.
He said the establishment of day-care centers in the different villages of the local government unit is the City Government's strong commitment to provide children with ages between three to five years with basic early childhood care development education.
"The song Kapaligiran provides a poignant and meaningful message on the great importance of protecting our threatened environment through the collective efforts of all citizens. Thus, it is an appropriate rallying song for our day-care centers pupils to show their involvement in bringing to consciousness of the community the need to protect Mother Earth," the executive order states.
The City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office kicked off the Environment Month yesterday morning with a flash mob at Kiosko Kagawasan Divisoria. The celebration highlights the importance of mangrove rehabilitation, solid waste management, and bamboo plantation in the city.
