YOUNG journalists of the secondary and elementary levels who are representing the 17 regions of the Philippines gathered in Cagayan de Oro as the city hosts this year's National Schools Press Conference (NSPC).
On Monday, July 17, 2023, more than 5,000 guests and delegates nationwide convened at the Atrium of Limketkai Mall as the Department of Education opened its 2023 NSPC and the National Festival of Talents.
Held from July 17 to 21, 2023, this year's NSPC marks the return of the in-person competition after a two-year hiatus due to the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.
Anchored on the theme “From Campus Journalism to Real-World Journalism: Shaping Minds from Schools to Societies,” the NSPC aims to award outstanding school paper advisers and campus journalists, recognizing the role of journalism in advocating social consciousness and environmental awareness, as well as provide learners opportunities to use their skills in campus journalism for their future careers.
Similar to previous years, campus journos from public and private elementary and secondary schools will compete in individual events, such as News Writing, Feature Writing, Editorial Writing, Sports Writing, Copyreading and Headline Writing, Science and Technology Writing, Photojournalism, Editorial Cartooning, and Column Writing.
Group events include Radio Scriptwriting and Broadcasting, TV Scriptwriting and Broadcasting, Collaborative Desktop Publishing, and Online Publishing.
Mobile journalism, which is set to be an added category in the coming years, will be introduced in a concurrent session.
