Technopark to break ground in Alubijid, Misamis Oriental

THE 300-hectare Mindanao Technopark will break ground today, August 17, in barangay Lourdes, Alubijid town, Misamis Oriental, in line with the 2nd Founding Anniversary of the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP).

A ground breaking ceremony is set today for the Regional Government Center which will stand in 50-hectare property and the 12-hectare property where the Provincial Government of Misamis Oriental will soon be transferred.

The Technopark is the regional government center and private economic zone, as recommended by the Regional Development Council (RDC) in Northern Mindanao under the Northern Mindanao Regional Development Plan 2022.

Vanessa Escano, USTP Vice President for Finance said that there are already 17 line government agencies which expressed their intent to relocate, among them are the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Department of Health (DOH), and Department of Agriculture (DA).

Also included are the Commission on Audit (COA), Commission on Elections (Comelec), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Commission on Higher Education (Ched), Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Civil Service Commission (CSC) and Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC).

The provincial capitol will also be relocated soon at the technopark and will occupy a 12-hectare area.

Escano said the whole property was donated by the national government through a presidential proclamation.

“These government agencies will take care of the construction of their buildings but the road networks, utilities will be provided by the university,” she said.

For their 2nd founding anniversary, USTP aims to strengthen its role in advancing inclusive and economic growth.

USTP officials also held yesterday, August 16, a groundbreaking ceremony for the Faculty Learning Resource Center, Design Engineering and Fabrication Laboratory, Sports Complex and Residences, and the Flood Protection System with former 2nd district representative Rufus Rodriguez as the guest speaker. Rodriguez is the Author of the USTP charter.
