A TRAFFIC law enforcer is facing robbery extortion charges for allegedly asking money from a motorist in exchange of a traffic violation.

Police arrested Emmanuel Umas-as, 30, member of the Roads and Traffic Administration (RTA), in an entrapment operation in Barangay Carmen, Cagayan de Oro City on Tuesday, May 12.

Authorities said the suspect asked money from a motorist who violated no parking for motorcycle policy.

Operatives used P500 marked money during the operation.

The suspect is now detained while filing of charges has been prepared.

City Police Director Colonel Henry Dampal reminded law enforcers not to be lured by opportunities.

"Extortion is a grievous sin and is not acceptable norm for us law enforcers," Dampal said.
