Zero firecracker-related injuries in Cagayan de Oro

CAGAYAN de Oro City welcomed the new year with no reported firecracker-related injuries, a health officer said Saturday, January 2,2021.

"As of January 1, 2021, sa Cagayan de Oro officially we are reporting that we don't have any casualties or fireworks-related injury apil na ang atong mga injury like ang mga gunshot wounds due to stray bullets," Acting City Health Officer Dr. Lorraine Nery said during the city's daily press conference.

City Epidemiologist Dr. Joselito Retuya said the City Health Office will continue their surveillance on fireworks-related injuries, including stray bullets, until January 6, 2021.

Meanwhile, the Department of Health (DOH)-Northern Mindanao has recorded three fireworks-related injuries and two gunshot wounds due to stray bullets in the region as of December 21, 2020 to January 2, 2021.

Of the three fireworks-related injuries, two were in Lanao del Norte and one in Bukidnon. One of the gunshot wound cases is in Bukidnon and the other is in Lanao del Norte.

According to DOH, of the five recorded casualties, one is a blast/burn with amputation in nature, two are stray bullet injuries and two are eye injuries.
