WITHOUT a 64-square-board challenge to face, Malaybalay City chess player Nolly Cabilas went instead to Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental to try his luck in a dart competition.

Alongside Melvin Daclag, the two went on to pocket the P5,000 top purse of the Open Tagoloan Fiesta: Darts Tournament 2020 to cap the two-weeklong Candelaria Festival on Sunday night, February 2.

"Of course, chess player gyod ko pero dart tournament man ang available unya naa sab koy kahibalo maong nidayo ko sa Tagoloan," the 40-something Cabilas, also a chess instructor at Bukidnon State University in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon, told SunStar Cagayan de Oro.

The tandem of Anol Menciano and Ramil Bahade claimed the second prize of P3,000, while the pair of Jeffrey Oliverio and John Kirby delos Reyes captured the third prize honor worth P2,000, also with trophy.

"Human sa basketball, ang motocross sa Natumolan ang pinaka highlight sa atong sports activities in celebrating the Candelaria Festival 2020 with the all-out support of Mayor Enan Sabio. Bahin pud ang tao kay naa may mahiligon sa dart tourney," said Tagoloan sports-in-charge Van Halen Parmis.

Meanwhile, another classified double mode of play will take place in time of the coming fiesta celebration of Barangay Iponan, Cagayan de Oro City.

Dubbed as "30K Bakbakan sa Iponan Fiesta Dart Tournament," it will be presented by Iponan Barangay Council and SK Federation Council with Bloomingdale Association of Darters (BAD Indians) on February 8 at Kaizer's Cleanworkz Carwash near Kinasahanghan Road.

The doubles champion is out to go home P10,000 richer.
