PHILIPPINE Football Federation (PFF) Futsal executive director Kevin Goco is very optimistic that the Philippines can produce very good futsal players in the coming years that can compete abroad.

Goco, also the head of the organizing committee of the Allianz PNB National Championships, said that he has witnessed some of the local eliminations of the tournament and is very happy so far of what he has seen.

“I have seen lots of talented girls and I am not exaggerating. When I say if we come up with a long term program for them, by the time they become 18-19 years old we can have a very competitive women’s Futsal team internationally specially for the Southeast Asian Games,” Goco said.

The Cagayan de Oro Misamis Oriental Regional FA (CMORFA) elimination tournament was recently held here at the Bulua National High School gym with Corpus Christi School of Cagayan de Oro topping the Boys Under (U)-16, Stonefield FC of Ozamis City the Girls U16, Holy Cross FC of Bukidnon the Boys U14, Higala FC of Cagayan de Oro the Girls U14, and Boys U12, and Pagapat FC the Girls U12.

Nine regional FA’s, NCR, Baguio, Naga City, Iloilo, Negros Occidental, Cebu, Davao, Dipolog and Cagayan de Oro have been selected to hold local eliminations.

Winners in the U16 and U14 divisions will advance to the Mindanao regional championship in Davao City on May 26 to 27. The Luzon championships are now ongoing while the Visayas championships will be on May 19 to 20.

Winners in the regional competition will then advance to the national finals in La Salle Greenhills, Manila on June 2 to 3. Top players will be selected to train and visit top German club Bayern Munich.

After the tournament the PFF is expected to produce a black book which will list the top Futsal players and coaches in the country. They will then undergo further training and competition to make them better Futsal players and coaches.

The main organizer of the tournament is PFF, Gawad Kalinga, and the Danny Moran Foundation, the prime mover of this tournament.
