TWO separate fire incidents on Monday, June 2, 2025, caused over P4 million in property damage in Cagayan de Oro City.
One fire destroyed four houses in Barangay Bugo, while the other, more extensive blaze broke out in Barangay 24, located about 17 kilometers east of the city proper.
Fire Senior Inspector Kyle Lauzon, operations chief of the City Fire District, said the fire in Barangay 24 started shortly after 10 a.m. and was brought under control within 30 minutes.
“Approximately 76 houses were damaged. Many of the affected structures were made of a combination of concrete and light materials,” Lauzon said in an interview.
Two individuals were reported injured -- one sustained a lacerated eyebrow, while the other suffered first and second-degree burns.
At least 24 fire trucks responded to the twin incidents. The City Social Welfare and Development Office distributed relief packs and set up temporary shelters for displaced residents. (PNA)
