NINE passengers and the driver were injured after the van they were riding figured in an accident around 7:45 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2025, along N. Bacalso Avenue in Barangay Banhigan, Dalaguete town.
Reports from Dalaguete Police Station stated that the van, driven by 38-year-old Robert Muñez, a resident of Barangay Garing in the town of Consolacion, Cebu, was traveling along the national road when it suddenly crashed into a streetlight post.
After the collision, the driver lost control of the steering wheel, causing the vehicle to overturn on the side of the road.
Due to the impact, all nine passengers, along with the driver, sustained physical injuries.
Rescue personnel from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) quickly arrived and brought the victims to the Argao District Hospital.
Police Senior Master Sergeant Runard Bureros, traffic investigator of the Dalaguete Municipal Police Station, said the van came from the south after picking up relatives and was on its way back to Barangay Garing in Consolacion when the driver reportedly miscalculated the road, leading to the crash.
“Gikan sila sa south, nya paingon na sila uli sa Consolacion. Mao to pag-abot anang barangay Banhigan, murag wala siya maka calculate sa dalan, naigo niya ang poste sa streetlight, nya wala na siya maka control sa steering wheel, na darok siya sa kilid sa karsada," said Bureros.
(They were from the south and heading back to Consolacion. When they reached Barangay Banhigan, the driver seemed to have miscalculated the road, hit the streetlight post, and then lost control of the steering wheel, causing the van to swerve to the roadside.)
All the passengers of the van are now in stable condition after sustaining only minor injuries. (AYB)
